Dry Film Electrode Coating Machine

1. Overview

Heat Roll Coating Machine for Electrodes

The Dry Film Electrode Coating Machine is a next-generation manufacturing system designed for the production of lithium-ion battery electrodes without the use of solvents. By eliminating the traditional wet coating and drying processes, this machine significantly reduces energy consumption, capital expenditure, and environmental footprint while enabling higher energy density electrodes. It integrates powder mixing, fibrillization, and precision calendering into a continuous roll‑to‑roll operation, delivering uniform self‑supported films or directly coated current collectors.

2. Key Features

Electrode Coating Machine

  • Solvent‑Free Processing – No NMP or water, no solvent recovery system, and minimal factory footprint.

  • Continuous Roll‑to‑Roll Production – From dry powder input to finished electrode rolls in one integrated line.

  • High‑Shear Fibrillization – Proprietary mixing technology ensures homogeneous dispersion of active materials, conductive additives, and PTFE binder, forming a free‑standing film with excellent mechanical integrity.

  • Precision Thickness Control – Advanced calendering station with servo‑controlled gap adjustment ensures thickness tolerance ≤ ±2 μm.

  • Broad Material Compatibility – Suitable for LFP, NMC, LCO, graphite, silicon‑carbon, and solid‑state electrolyte formulations.

  • Modular Design – Easily scalable from R&D/pilot scale (e.g., 200 mm width) to mass production (up to 800 mm or wider).

4. Dry Film Electrode Coating Machine Process Flow

  1. Raw Material Dosing – Automated gravimetric feeding of active material, conductive additive, and PTFE binder.

  2. High‑Shear Mixing – Intensive mixing to induce fibrillization of PTFE, creating a dry, homogeneous powder mixture.

  3. Film Formation – The mixed powder is fed into a calender nip, where it is compressed into a self‑supported film.

  4. Lamination (optional) – The free‑standing film can be laminated onto a current collector (copper or aluminum foil) in a heated nip station.

  5. Slitting & Rewinding – In‑line slitting to final electrode width and rewinding into finished electrode rolls.
